Food in Atlanta / 아틀란타 식당들

one day, i came up with the idea of marking the food places in atlanta that i have been before on google maps. why? hmm not sure.. i think i was just bored. i like food and maps. i also marked places i would like to visit to eat in the future. i'm gonna continue to update this map.

by the way, i recently had the chance to eat at this japanese restaurant called Shoya. it was an awesome experience! all the workers at least seemed japanese with custom clothing, the interior made me feel like i was in some part of japan (or in an anime), and felt really homely. food was delicious too. there were so many items on the menu that it took forever to decide what to eat. def a place i'd go back again. find it on my map! (make sure to go for dinner and not on mondays, i just found out that their hours start at 5pm and they close on mondays)

내가 아틀란타에 있으면서 먹어본 식당들을 구글맵에 표시하자는 생각이 들었다.
왜? 걍 심심해서.. 음식과 지도 보는걸 좋아해서..? ㅋㅋ
가보고 싶은 식당들도 표시를 했다.. 지도는 계속해서 업뎃할거다

얼마전에 쇼야라는 일본식당에서 식사를 했다. 식후평? 완소!
모든 직원들이 최소한 일본사람 같아보였고..ㅋㅋ 일본틱한 옷도 입고,
인테리어 마저 마치 내가 일본에 있는것 같이 느껴졌다.. (혹은 일본만화속?ㅎㅎ)
무엇보다 중요한건 굉장히 편안하고 포근한 기분이었다는것. 그리고 음식도 맛있었다~
메뉴판이 너무 커서 뭘 먹을지 결정하는데만 오래걸렸다...
다음에 다시 꼭 가보고 싶은 식당~

i'm finally done with work. the season has ended and i was laid off this week.

i worked at this family-owned (fun people) business that does children's art fundraising for schools in all 50 states (wow!).  i was there since the fall season and returned for the spring season, working in the data entry department under an awesome boss (and awesome team). i did transfer to the warehouse at the end of each season to get more hours. anyhow, this is my data entry cubicle:

드디어 일이 끝나버렸다. 고로 나는 해고를 당했다... (ㅋㅋ 해고는 아니고.. 임시직인지라 그냥 기간이 끝난것뿐)

내가 지난 가을과 올 봄시즌에 일한 이 회사는 가족이 창업한 회사로 미국 50개주에 있는 수많은 학교들을 상대로 아이들의 그림을 제품에 찍어서 파는 회사다. 학교는 회사에서 이것들을 사고, 부모님들이 그걸 학교에게서 좀더 올린 값으로 사면서 학교는 수익을 올리는 모금이벤트과 같은걸 한다. 난 이곳에서 데이터입력 부서에 멋쟁이 보스!밑에서 멋쟁이 팀과 함께 일을 했다. 시즌이 끝날때마다 창고로 가서 다른일도 도왔다. 밑에 사진은 내가 타자를 열나게 쳤던 자리:

i can't say that the work itself was exciting b/c it was pretty simple work and almost mundane, but it was the joy we found in the things we typed, kids' artworks, horrible handwritings (or almost drawing names when it says "please write legibly"), parent's mistakes (or rather their failing to follow instructions) we encounter, and having a cool team of coworkers and boss to enjoy all of this together that made it all the fun.

typing fast is important when you're working in the data entry field. we are expected to type above a certain rate. we even had to take a typing test upon interviewing for the job. in fact, there was so much work piled up that a team of 7 had to work overtime in the fall. and all we do at work for 8 hours? type... and so it's obvious and our team is well aware that we need to type as fast as we can.. and one day, as if he was sending a message to us, we found this one kid's artwork that cracked us up:

워낙 타자치는게 쉽고 지겨울수도 있는 일이라 일자체가 신났다곤 말할수 없다.. 아이들이 그린 그림들, 정말 뭐같은 손글씨들 (애들이 쓴 이름을 타입해야한다...), 부모들의 실수 (혹은 주문서 작성 요령을 무시해주는 센스 부모님들), 그리고 이 것들을 함께 즐길수있는 팀원들과 보스가 있었기에 그나마 재밌게 일하는 시간을 보낼수 있었던것 같다.

데이터입력 부서에서는 빨리 타자치는게 생명. 최소한의 타자속도가 필요하며 인터뷰볼때도 타자시험을 봐야했다 (숫자도 했어요). 지난 가을 시즌에는 일이 하도 많아서.. 7명이서 일하면서도 초과근무를 해야했다. 하루종일 일하면서 우리가 하는것이라곤 타자치는것 뿐인데도..ㅎㅎ 그래서 우리가 빨리 타자를 쳐야한다는건 아주 잘 알고있다. 그런 와중에 어느 한 아이의 이 그림을 발견해버린것이다. 마치 우리에게 보내는 메세지인 마냥 ㅋㅋ (아 추억의 쏘닉ㅋㅋㅋ):

typing, number inputting, double checking were things i've done in data entry. but when i transferred to warehouse, much more... sorting, matching, packing, glue-gunning, tile baking, printing, bagging, peeling, printing, assembling, etc... haha i did so many different things back in the warehouse within such a short period of time. as i went from department to department, i was surprised how well their system is setup and on the way for even more improvement.

now that i'm done here, i should focus more to work on the next step for me.. maybe i will return in the fall season again, maybe not. either way, victory shall be mine!

이 부서에서는 타자치고, 숫자판 두들기고, 다른 팀원의 일을 재확인하는것이 다였다. 창고로 가서는 진짜 별의별 일을 다해봤다... 제품분류, 배송포장, 접착제총질, 타일 굽기, 열을 이용한 프린팅, 비닐포장, 비닐뜯기, 시계조립, 기타등등;; 창고에서 일한건 전체 시간의 10% 밖에 안되는데도 짜잘한걸 더 많이 배운것 같다.

이 회사에서 일을 끝냈으니 이제 인생의 다음 단계를 좀더 집중해서 고려하고 진행해야겠다. 가을시즌에 다시 돌아갈지는, 아무래도 다음 몇달사이에 무슨일이 일어나는지에 달렸겠지. 무슨일이 일어나건, 승리는 곧 나의 것!

Homemade(?) Chinese and Jackie Chan / 집에서 만들어 먹은 중국집, 그리고 성룡형님 ㅋㅋ

although i say homemade, some ingredients weren't completely from scratch. regardless, i handmade some dumplings few weeks ago, kept them in the freezer until i decided to make jjajang-myun (black bean paste noodles or something..) to have a chinese dinner.

dumplings: the skins were purchased, but everything else was prepared by hand: fresh ground pork, garlic chives, napa, and wet&dry ingredients (recipe from me moms). wrapped and frozen, (drool)... the ones cooked tonight were boiled. 

jjajang-myun: noodles and paste powder were purchased. threw in some vegetables into the jjajang sauce like onions, potatoes, carrots, and zucchini. and a special treat, 3gs (sam gyup sal aka pork belly) meat in the sauce. following the instructions from the paste powder package was sufficient. it was super easy and super delish~

집에서 만들었다지만 짜장 분말가루나 만두피는 마켓에서 구입했다
그래도 만두는 몇주전에 손으로 직접 싸서 냉동칸에 얼려뒀다가
오늘 같은 날, 짜장면과 함께 먹을 수 있기를 기다려온거다~

만두: 만두피는 샀지만 만두소는 직접 만들었다 (레시피는 어무이께서 주심)
갈은 돼지고기, 부추, 배추와 이것저것양념 넣고 열나마구 휘저어주더라
몇십개 다 싸고 얼려서 야금야금 먹다가 오늘 짜장면과 함께 츄르릅 ㅎㅠㅎ
오늘은 그냥 물에 삶아서 준비, 흐흐흐.. 기대만빵~

짜장면: (칼)국수랑 짜장 분말가루는 마켓에서 샀고
짜장을 만들때는 양파, 감자, 당근, 호박을 투하
그리고 보너스로 예전에 먹다남은 냉동삼겹살 썰어서 고고
오뚜기 짜장가루팩에 쓰여진 조리방법을 따라하니깐 무진장 쉽다!

두둥, 이것이 짜장면과 만두!

while eating, i watched Little Big Soldier starring jackie chan. it was a good chinese comedy/action. surprised how he still doesn't use any stunt doubles at the age of 56.
