i wanted to draw / 그림을 그리고 싶었다

recently picked up my pencil and pad and started drawing away.. i remember enjoying it when i was sorta forced to during art class in Korea. now it's a whole new world of fun! especially coloring with photoshop~

최근에 그림을 다시 그리기 시작했다..
한국에서 미술시간에 억지긴 했지만 많이 그렸고,
그 와중에서도 굉장히 즐겼고, 또 추억이 아련하다...
지금 다시 그리자니 완전 새로운 기분! 여전히 재밌다 :)
특히 포토샵으로 색칠하기에 빠짐 ㅋㅎㅎ

어떻게 될지는 모르겠지만.. 두고 봅세다 ㅋㅋ

what is the Urban Picnic? here's a quick AJC article writing about the first event held back in March. and another blogger who wrote about their experience from the first picnic in March. basically, it's an event that presents food made by various street vendors from Atlanta and Georgia for everyone to try. there's no admissions fee, but the food will cost some cash.. btw, it's not the kind of picnic on grass but in a parking lot :)

3월부터 한달에 한번씩 이런 자리를 마련하고자 한다
5월에는 법적으로 뭐가 꼬여서 펼치지 못했다고 하는데..
아틀란타에서 길거리 음식을 한번도 맛보지 못한 나로서는..
이번에 열리는 픽닉에 가고 싶지 않을수가 없다!

not sure if i can make it to the event, but i'm already there in spirit :)

Goals from the Koreas / 한국과 북한의 골장면들

world cup fever continues as the 1st round matches come to an end tomorrow (or i guess now today, the 16th of June) with Honduras vs Chile and Spain vs Switzerland. world cup fantasy league only adds more to the madness :)

각 국의 첫 경기들이 내일(아님 이제 오늘.. 16일) 혼두라스 대 칠레, 스페인 대 스위스 전을 끝이 나지만 월드컵의 열기는 더 뜨거워질 뿐... 내안에서도 제대로 타오르고 있다 ㅋㅋ 월드컵 판타지 리그를 시작했는데.. 정말 재미를 30배 더해주네~

i woke up late and missed Lee Jung Soo's goal... but watched it after the match against Greece thanks to tevo.

이정수의 골은 늦게 일어나서 놓쳤다...
허나 녹화해준 덕에 경기를 마치고 다시보기를 통해 볼수있었다~

Park Ji Sung's goal sent my voice away to neverland. beautiful finish!
지성이형의 골은 그리스와 함께 내 목소리를 날려보냈다.. 멋진 피니쉬!

i was sooooooooooooo proud last Saturday! (and still am!)
한국 대표팀이 너무나도 자랑스러웠던 토요일 아침! (지금도!!) :)

...and another beautiful goal against Brazil from the North Korean defender Ji Yun Nam!
...그리고 북한 수비수 지윤남의 멋진 골!

despite of their 2-1 loss, team North Korea did one heck of a job against Brazil today~
비록 졌지만서도, 브라질을 상대로 정말 멋지게 선전해줬다~

and some random Brazilian old man that kept on appearing on tv kissing his trophy...
그리고 자꾸 중계에서 비춰주던 우승 트로피에 뽀뽀질하는 랜덤한 브라질 할아버지 ㅋㅋ

no doubt that reading about food has been a joy to me in May (and even now). i don't even know where to start with this one.. (deep breath)

5월의 미는 음식에 대해 읽는것에 있었다 해도 이상하지 않다
어디서부터 써야할지 모르겠지만 일단 고!

let me start with the most exciting blog i found, at least to my interest. the name of the blog is Atlanta Food Carts, a blog that writes about the food cart (or truck) and street vendor scene in Atlanta. apparently, one of the main reasons we don't see many food carts in Atlanta is due to its city laws that place many regulations and restrictions to running a food cart. being a huge fan of food cart food, i would love to see many food carts invading the streets of Atlanta! it features people with passion enough to run a cart of their own, which i'm dying to check out.

아틀란타의 포장마차(한국의 그 것과는 좀 많이 다르지만...)
혹은 길거리 음식 문화에 대해 소식을 전하고 홍보하는 블로그~
아틀란타에서 길거리 음식 문화가 다른 대도시에 비해
크게 발달되지 않은 이유 중 하나가 법률에 의한 규정 및 제재 때문.
길거리 음식을 좋아하는 한 사람으로서,
아틀란타의 길거리 음식 문화가 부흥하는 모습을 꼭 보고 싶다!
블로그에는 가끔 푸드카트를 운영하는 몇몇 사람들을 소개하는데
정말 다 한번씩 돌아보고 싶은 1人!!

another blog that became a regular to me is the famous Atlanta based food blog, Blissful Glutton. if you live in Atlanta and love food, this blog is a must-know. countless restaurants visited, reviewed, and photos taken (my favorite part). also, the blog has something called Bliss List: 2009, list of restaurants the author has visited multiple times, which is "no better testament to a place." but maybe you should be the judge for yourself.

즐겨찾기 툴바에 추가된 또 하나의 블로그는 블리스풀 글러튼 (행복한 폭식가?ㅋㅋ)
아틀란타에 살고 음식을 좋아하는 사람이라면 꼭 알아둘만한 블로그~
운영자는 수 없이 많은 음식점을 방문, 평가를 했고 여전히 하고 있다..(사진 많아서 좋아요!)
블로그에 블리스 리스트 (행복리스트?ㅋㅋㅋ) 2009 라고,
한 해 동안 운영자가 여러번 방문했던 음식점들을 한 페이지에 나열, 소개해놨는데
운영자왈: "여러번 방문하는 것 만큼 좋은 칭찬은 없다." 아멘~
그러나 자신의 입맛은 남이 대신할 수 없으니.. 직접 먹어보고 평해보자~

as i was revisiting these blogs, i found postings about a food truck called Yumbii. this is a new truck in town partnered with Hankook Taqueria. i never tried Hankook's food (known for its Korean tacos and other food), so i made a visit for lunch. lo and behold, the owner of Yumbii was at the restaurant eating and talking with someone from Hankook. i was really excited for him for starting up a food truck and entering the scene here in barren Atlanta. didn't get to say hi, but i really wish him the best, would love to visit the truck! however, i must say that the food at Hankook did not meet my expectations of being a "Korean"-Mexican food place. in my opinion, there wasn't much Korean-ness about the tacos besides the spicy sauce added to the taco.. i haven't tried anything else besides the tacos and fries, but wish the meat was cooked more like the Korean meat that all of Korea is proud of. food was still delicious!

위의 두 블로그들을 여러번 방문하면서 "염비"라고 하는 푸드트럭에 대해 알게됐다
아틀란타 조쟈텍에서 10분거리에 위치한
한쿡 타케리아(이하 한.타)라는 음식점과 파트너/협력관계..
암튼 한국식 멕시칸 타코 및 음식을 판매한다는게 관점인데,
소문만 듣다가 먹어보고 싶어서 방문했더니, 이게 웬일?
염비의 사장님(꽤 젊다)이 한.타의 사장님으로 보이는 사람과 식사를 하고 있지 않은가!
염비사장님과 인사를 못건네 많이 아쉬웠지만..
길거리 음식 문화가 메마른 아틀란타에서 정말 부흥하기를 바랍니다!
하지만 한.타에서 먹은 음식은 약간 실망이지 않을 수 없다..
한국식 타코라는데 타코에서 한국의 맛을 느끼지 못했기 때문이다..
3가지의 다른 타코와 감자튀김을 주문했는데,
타코에서 한국다운 것이라곤 초고추장과 같은 매콤한 소스 뿐
자랑스러운 한국의 맛으로 고기를 조리해주면 하는...
한국 음식의 이미지가 제대로 위상을 떨치지 못한다는 점이 아쉬울 뿐
음식은 나름대로 괜찮다.. 메뉴의 다른 음식도 먹어보고 싶다 ㅎㅎ

i enjoy cooking but my skills are low. what to do? look up blogs! i have been visiting two Korean blogs that have plenty of awesome and fun recipes. i get most of my Korean food recipes from these two sites (both written only in Korean.. sorry if you can't read Korean). first is Moon Sung Sil's Delicious Dining Table (문성실의 맛있는 밥상). incredible/ridiculous amounts of recipe and info on cooking. she takes pictures for almost every step of the way, which is nice and fancy. second is Double P's Ddook-Ddak Cooking (더블피의 뚝딱쿠킹). i like this one b/c the author is poor. let me rephrase that. i like this one b/c the author is so ingenious about cooking low-budget meals. it really humbles me. not all recipes sound appealing, but some are just, as the author puts it, precious (완소!)

요즘 한국 블로그 두 곳을 매주마다 들리곤 하는데 맛있고 재밌는 레시피가 수두룩!
한국 음식을 요리할때는 꼭 이 두곳부터 뒤져본다~
첫번째는 문성실의 맛있는 밥상!
정말 어마어마한 양의 레시피와 음식 정보가 담겨있는 블로그.. 초강추!!
레시피마다 사진을 많이 찍어주져서 좋다.. 문성실 아줌마 짱!ㅋㅋ
두번째는 더블피의 뚝딱쿠킹!
이건 솔직히 블로그라기보단 게시판같은 기분이 들지만,
매주마다 올라오는 엔트리를 클릭하면
마치 웹툰처럼 길다란 형식으로 표현해서 재밌다~
이 곳은 더블피님이 자취생활 (지금은 결혼했지만!ㅊㅋ)하면서
가난요리에서부터 내공을 올리시는,
기발한 아이디어의 레시피를 찾을 수 있어 좋다 ㅎㅎ
모든 레시피가 꼭 맛있게 보이지는 않지만.. (개인적 입맛탓이랄까..ㅎㅎ)
어떤 것들은 더블피님이 말씀하시듯이 완소!ㅋㅋ

Where did my May go? / 5월은 어디로?

May was a month of... laziness as far as this blog goes. quite a lot of stuff happened but just didn't had the motivation to turn it into a post. not sure if a quick recap will do justice, but let's give it a shot:

많은 일들이 일어났음에도 불구하고 포스팅할 의욕상실...킁;;
짤막하게 넘어가기엔 살짝 부족할지도 모르겠지만,

Graduations
lots of people i know graduated this spring, both from Tech and Emory. i wanna say about 40+ that i know... whew. going to all of them made it feel lengthy, but definitely worth the time. 'twas a moment to feel proud of the friends walking down the lane receiving their diplomas, esp the Tech graduates :) another congratulations to all the 2010 spring graduates!

졸업식
내가 졸업한건 아니고... 조쟈텍과 에모리 둘다 합쳐서
한 40명 이상의 졸업생들을 알기에 축하해주려고 졸업식에 갔었다.
물론 모두에게 인사와 축하를 건네진 못했지만;; 가길 참 잘한것 같다!
졸업장 받으러 가는 모습들이 얼마나 자랑스럽던지~ 특히 내 예쁜 텍 후배들 :)
다시 한번 모든 2010년 봄학기 졸업생들에게 축하를 날립니다!!

New Job
after ending my last job in April, i had to find another one... and thank God (and a friend) that it came pretty quick. it is a project-based translating position that'll last only through this two month project which hasn't really started yet. once it starts, i should be good for the rest of the summer though. still not sure what to really expect..

새 일/직업
4월까지 있던 예전 일자리에서 나온 이후로 새로운 일자리가 필요했다
너무나 감사하게도! 금새 일자리를 찾을수 있었다
두달짜리 프로젝트가 진행되는 동안에만
번역과 관련하여 일을 하게 되는데, 아직 시작도 안했..
그나마 시작하면 남은 여름은 보장된 셈이라 그나마 다행~
근데 아직 뭘 기대해야할지도 잘 모르겠다는..;;


Trip to Florida
"had an awesome time with some awesome people at an awesome place." awesome people were somewhat random people i usually don't hang with, except for some. awesome place was Panama City Beach. it was a great one-night trip to start the summer. i was able to look back at the past year and look forward to the summer while enjoying the water, beach, food, and company of others. i'd love to go back again sometime before the end of summer!

플로리다로의 1박2일
"멋진 사람들과 함께 멋진 곳에서 멋진 시간을 보냈다." 완전 멋쟁이~ㅋㅋ
다소 랜덤한 그룹의 인원들이었지만, 재밌는 사람들.. 금새 친해졌고
장소는 파나마 시티 해수욕장 (Panama City Beach)
여름을 시작하기에 너무나도 적절했던 1바~~~악 2일! 여행 ㅎㅎ
해변가에서 시간을 보내면서 지난 한해를 돌아볼 수 있었고..
다가오는 (이미 다가온) 여름을 기대하며 즐거운 시간을 보냈다
여름이 끝나기전에 또 한번 놀러가고파! 


Games
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 - i'm trying to learn how to fly an airplane... almost finished the beginner's training but been on hold up to this day. trying to fly with a keyboard doesn't really seem to do justice, although i never flew a real plane. i should get back to the lessons.

Battlefield 2 - the game that ruined my computer 1-2 year in college. i wanted to play this game badly that i tried installing it despite of my inferior graphics card at the time (geforce 2 mx400 64mb). while attempting to install the game, my computer crashed, never recovered, had to reformat everything. now with a new graphics card (thanks to a friend), i was able to enjoy the game. was able to tweak the number of bots, but would be nice to play with tons of real people instead of ai.

Onimusha 3 - also a game i was not able to play back when it was released b/c i didn't own a console. well, they have a pc version which works just fine on my crappy old computer. enjoyed the story and going back and forth in time with the two awesome characters (or actors) Samanosuke and Jacques (or Takeshi Kaneshiro and Jean Reno). loved how the end brought everything back to the beginning. love the music. i have my cons too but too tired to list any right now..

마이크로소프트 비행시뮬레이션 2004 - 비행기 나는법을 배우고자 한다
초보자 레슨을 거의다 끝냈지만 현재까지 대기상태...
키보드갖고 연습하자니 완전 꽝입니다요-_-;
다시 재개를 해야할텐데..;;

배틀필드 2 - 대학 1-2학년때 컴터 말아먹인 장본인...
구린 글픽카드임에도 불구하고 (지포2 mx400 64메가) 게임을 깔았...
...는데 컴터 다운되더니 복구불능.. 결국 포맷시켰어야ㅠㅠ
친구덕에 새 글픽 얻고서 깔았더니 잘 되더라
컴터 인원을 늘리는 방법을 배웠는데
인공지능 대신 많은 사람들이랑 함께 하면 왕 재밌을것 같은..
(인터넷으로 해보고파~)

귀무자 3 - 이 겜 또한 발매당시부터 할 기회가 없었다가
피씨 버전이 있는걸 최근에 발견하고는
구린 컴터임에도 받아서 돌렸더니 잘만 돌아간다는!
스토리도 좋았고, 사마노스케와 잭 사이에 시간 이동도 나름 신선했고
금성무와 장르노 아저씨의 조화가 괜찮았다
겜 끝에가서 다시 처음으로 되돌아가는게 맘에 들었고, 음악도 아주 맘에 들었다
겜의 단점들도 있었지만 피곤해서 걍.패.스 ㅋㅋ

시간 참 빨리 지나가네요...
